The Japanese TV show “Midnight Diner” was a huge hit in China, but viewers weren’t too thrilled with its Chinese remake. Surely China can do better than trying to replicate Japan’s izakaya experience?

匆匆 cōng cōng = in a hurry
材料 cái liào = ingredients
深夜食堂 shēn yè shí táng = Midnight Diner (name of TV show)
经营 jīng yíng = to manage a business
感人 gǎn rén = touching
东京 dōng jīng = Tokyo
招待 zhāo dài = to serve / to offer to a guest
盘 pán = plate
落泪 luò lèi = to weep or cry

版 bǎn = version
接地气 jiē dì qì = down-to-earth / a good fit with local norms in China
演员 yǎn yuán = actor
发型 fǎ xíng = hairstyle
国情 guó qíng = the condition / realities of a country
赞助商 zàn zhù shāng = sponsor
广告 guǎng gào = advertisement
灵堂 líng táng = funeral hall
抄 chāo = to copy
烧烤 shāo kǎo = barbecue
装潢 zhuāng huáng = to decorate
正规 zhèng guī = legit
地摊 dì tān = roadside stall (read this article for more)
黑暗 hēi àn = dark
卫生 wèi shēng = hygiene
香肠 xiāng cháng = sausages
